Alice Ventures today announced that it is incubating LUMI, an AI in-vehicle companion built by a Shenzhen-based hardware team, for the United States market. LUMI joins the Alice Ventures venture studio alongside TurboEV and Roadeo.
What distinguishes LUMI is not the category, but the engineering beneath it. Its founding team comes out of automotive chipset and system-on-chip design, with two decades of Tier 1 supply chain experience and twelve years spent building the company from the ground up. On the software side, LUMI is a full voice assistant. Its US experience will be powered by ChatGPT, wrapped in a physical companion that responds to the driver, the cabin, and the drive.
The US in-car AI market stands at $1.48 billion and is growing 16.6 percent a year. Today, nearly every product available is either a voice-only speaker or a functional CarPlay screen. Physical, expressive AI companions, already a familiar feature of premium Chinese EV cabins, are essentially absent in the United States.
